In the heart of Augsburg, Build Smart was tasked with transforming a dated and worn bathroom in a historic Altbau apartment into a modern, space-efficient wellness retreat. The original room – with outdated tiles, a narrow bathtub, and inefficient layout – no longer met the needs or aesthetic standards of the client.

Our challenge:

• Limited space due to old building dimensions

• Outdated plumbing and electrical installations

• Fragile surrounding structures typical of Altbau properties

• The client’s wish for a barrier-free, low-maintenance, seamless design

 

Our solution included:

• Complete gutting of the existing bathroom, including removal of all wall coverings, floor structures, plumbing, and fittings

• Installation of new water and drainage systems, adapted to the apartment’s vertical shaft system

• Use of dust-protection systems and noise-minimizing tools to prevent disturbance to neighbors in the multi-unit building

• Creation of a walk-in shower with integrated drain, non-slip resin flooring, and easy-clean surfaces

• Seamless wall finishes with a modern microcement coating in warm grey tones, combining elegance with moisture resistance

• Installation of modern sanitaryware, including a floating toilet, space-saving vanity unit, and LED mirror with anti-fog system

• Finishing touches such as recessed lighting and matte black fixtures to give the room a timeless, high-end aesthetic
